Active Seniors, assemble! As we gather for barbecues and backyard games on this Memorial Day, let’s take a moment to honor a different kind of service – the service and sacrifice of our fallen heroes.
From Decoration Day to Paddles of Pride:
Memorial Day’s story starts after the Civil War, a time of immense loss. Communities began decorating the graves of fallen soldiers on what was called “Decoration Day.” Over time, this tradition evolved into a national day of remembrance for all those who died serving our country. It wasn’t until 1971 that it was made an official federal holiday.
Remembering Their Sacrifice, Inspiring Our Activity:
On this Memorial Day, we remember the bravery and commitment of those who gave their all. Their dedication to a cause greater than themselves should inspire us to live our lives to the fullest, prioritizing our health and well-being.
Pickleball: A Salute to Strength and Resilience
Active seniors embody that same spirit of resilience. Pickleball, with its emphasis on strategy, quick movements, and social connection, is a fantastic way to keep our bodies and minds sharp. Just like our veterans trained diligently, we can use pickleball to stay active and engaged, fostering a strong foundation for a fulfilling life.
Together, let’s raise a paddle (and a grateful heart) to our fallen heroes!
I hope everyone got a chance to knock the ball around with your family and friends today. And for all of you who have served your country, I humbly thank you.
